Using Muscle Building Drinks to Feed Your Muscles

Muscle building drinks are an important tool in a good bodybuilding routine. They are used to ensure you get the most out of your workout. You can also use them for carb loading before your routine.

While I don’t suggest drinking nutritional supplements all day throughout the day, I do feel these drinks have their place in a good bodybuilding routine. Normally whole, natural, solid foods are the best choice for your nutritional needs. After a workout when your muscles need to get nutrition quickly, muscle building drinks are a good choice for a post workout meal.

If you do not get carbohydrates into your system soon after a workout to raise your blood glucose levels, the insulin and cortisol levels in your body will start working against you. Your body needs carbohydrates to replenish the glycogen stores you used.  Fats will slow the digestive process, which means the sugars and protein you need are going to take longer to get into your system.

The human body is an amazing piece of equipment. Your body has its own emergency energy supply. The body uses glycogen as fuel for your muscles.  These glycogen stores are kept so that your body has access fuel when you are being pushed to muscle failure, as you should be in a good workout. Replenishing these stores quickly after a workout helps to get nutrition to your muscles when they need it most.

Muscle building drinks that have high glycemic carbohydrates and protein are a good choice after a workout because they get into your system quickly. The most important time to feed your muscles is the first 1 – 3 hours after a workout. During this time they are rebuilding and repairing the damage from your workout. During this time, you need to get protein into your system. High glycemic carbohydrates get into your system faster than lower glycemic carbs making them a better choice for this meal.

When you go to the gym, or where ever you work out, you should bring along your supplement drink with you so you can drink it as soon after your workout as possible. This quick liquid nutrition feeds your muscles when they need it most. There are several supplements available; for best results you need to choose a high carbohydrate protein drink. Protein is one of the main building blocks your body uses for muscle growth. There is nothing better to feed your muscles after a workout.
